“In July 2014, our lives changed. We had just become empty nesters after raising our 3 sons. My niece had given birth to my great niece, Brooklynn, in December 2013. She made some very poor decisions during her pregnancy and after her delivery. Brooklynn suffered with many issues due to the poor decisions made. Some of her issues included: a feeding disorder, a sleep disorder, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, development delays, physical abuse and exposure to drugs. CPS had removed Brooklynn from her, so we obtained our foster care license so that we could be the full-time foster parents and guardians of Brooklynn. We went through multiple CPS case works, had CASA workers, hired our own attorney, an ad litem attorney and there was Dan-Phi Nguyen, the Assistant County Attorney.
For 18 months we went through the process of termination and adoption. We were so thankful that Mr. Nguyen was there to fight for the truth and fight for the child that deserved a chance. He did his research, he talked to the parties, he asked the questions in court that brought out the truth. He FOUGHT for Brooklynn. He was there from the beginning all the way to the end when her biological mother and father’s rights were terminated until the Adoption!!
We are so thankful that Mr. Nguyen cared and loved what he did! It was very apparent that it wasn’t just a job. Today we have a happy, healthy 6 1/2 year old girl with 3 adult brothers, a sister-in-law and she is now an Aunt “B” to 2 nieces and 1 on the way.
